The "F" Word - Fleas

We are currently experiencing one of the worst flea seasons in years. Fleas are thriving due to ideal weather conditions, and unfortunately even well-cared-for pets can be affected.

To protect all cats in our care, strict flea control is essential.

What you need to know:

• Flea eggs and larvae can lie dormant for months and hatch suddenly.

• Flea control must include both your pet and their home environment.

• You may still see fleas for 1–2 days after treatment—this does not mean the treatment isn’t working.

Before your cat arrives:

• ·Do not rely on flea treatment alone.

• Please flea-comb your cat thoroughly before coming in.

• If you see small black gritty specks, place them on a damp white cloth—if they turn red, this is flea dirt (digested blood).

⚠️ Cats arriving with fleas will be treated immediately. The cost for the administration of the flea treatment will be passed onto the client.

We have been advised by Veterinarians, that due to their active ingredients some brands of treatments are no longer effective. We recommend using Nexguard or Bravecto spot on treatments. 

Prevention tips:

• Use flea prevention on time, every time.

• Treat all pets in your household, including indoor-only pets.

• Vacuum frequently, especially sleeping areas and under furniture.

• Wash pet bedding at 60°C.

• Treat indoor and outdoor environments, particularly shady areas.

• Avoid flea bombs—use targeted sprays under furniture. Severe cases may require professional pest control.

Consistency is key. Once the current flea surge settles, control usually improves.
